Prima Power Laserdyne Opens Tech Center in China

The new facility features a Laserdyne 430BD 15 kW fiber laser system to demonstrate precision cutting, welding and drilling in a wide range of materials.

Posted: April 8, 2015

The Laserdyne 430BD is a six-axis fiber laser system designed for precision cutting, welding and drilling two and three dimensional components, operating at speeds up to 20 m/min (800 ipm) in the X, Y, and Z axes with bi-directional accuracy of 12.7 µm (0.0005 in).

Prima Power Laserdyne (Champlin, MN), a world leading manufacturer of multi-axis laser cutting, welding, and drilling systems, has announced plans to install a Laserdyne 430BD system at their new Technology Center in Suzhou, China.

The new Technology Center will provide laser process development for Asian customers seeking solutions to a wide range of fabricating challenges. The 430BD will be equipped with a 15 kW QCW fiber laser and will be a venue for the demonstration of precision cutting, welding and drilling in a wide range of materials.

“Installation of this system in the new facility is in response to recent orders received from Chinese customers for the 430BD system and increasing interest in this system,” reports Mark Barry, the vice president of sales and marketing. “This new laser system is an example of technology in a combination of cost and capability that has not been available to the Chinese market or anywhere else, for that matter. Long served with earlier Laserdyne multi-axis systems, Chinese and Asian manufacturers have found it advantageous to invest in the newest and best manufacturing technology available. Often, that has been Laserdyne laser system technology. The Laserdyne product line was one of the first to be offered with high power fiber laser technology.”

The 430BD is a six-axis fiber laser system designed for precision cutting, welding and drilling two and three dimensional components. The system operates at speeds up to 20 m/min (800 ipm) in the X, Y, and Z axes with bi-directional accuracy of 12.7 µm (0.0005 in). This accuracy is throughout the system’s 585 mm x 408 mm x 508 mm work envelope, making it ideal for laser processing a broad range of components in many materials.

The 430BD includes the full complement of hardware and software features for integrated control of the laser, motion, and process sensors. While the laser source is an important component of a 3D laser system, the full capability of laser processing is only realized when the laser, motion, and process sensors are fully integrated as they are in the 430BD. This high level of integration provides greater process control and flexibility and is the basis for capabilities that affect processing speed and quality of laser processed components.
