Reaching New Heights in Mobile TIG Welding

Whether the demand is for field applications or a need to move frequently around the shop, this handy tool can get the job done.

The portable AccuPocket 150/400 TIG battery-powered welding system from Fronius enables TIG welding to be performed at full power for up to 17 minutes without a main connection.
The portable AccuPocket TIG from Fronius offers two and four-step switchover that facilitate the welding of thin sheets by reducing heat input, improving gap-bridging ability and achieving a weave pattern in the weld seam that is typical of TIG welding two components to be joined without using filler metal. Its TAC function quickly and safely joins the base material at the start of welding and during setting out and tacking. The torch uses a TIG Multi Connector and a built-in UpDown switch that reduces the main current when welding to regulate the heat input and reduce the risk of burn-through.

Fronius USA LLC (Portage, IN) has expanded its range of battery-operated welding solutions to include a variant for TIG welding. Weighing 10.9 kg, the AccuPocket 150/400 TIG is just as handy as the device already available for manual metal arc welding that has impressed users with its TIG functions that include the touchdown ignition and TIG Comfort Stop (TCS). However, the AccuPocket TIG offers additional, powerful TIG functions, such as a two and four-step switchover that facilitate the welding of thin sheets in particular.

The TIG pulse function of the new AccuPocket is of central importance to TIG welders because it ensures reduced heat input, improved gap-bridging ability and a better weld seam appearance. This can also be used to achieve a weave pattern in the weld seam that is typical of TIG welding, where the two components are to be joined without the use of filler metal (autogenous). With the TAC function, the user can quickly and safely join the base material at the start of welding as well as during setting out and tacking. The AccuPocket TIG also uses an integrated gas solenoid valve that guarantees an optimum gas shield in the start and stop phase. Particular attention has been paid to the newly developed welding torch for this mobile TIG welding innovation. The torch has a TIG Multi Connector and a built-in UpDown switch that reduces the main current during the welding process to regulate the heat input and considerably reduce the risk of burn-through.

Fronius USA is a subsidiary of innovation leader Fronius International GmbH (Pettenbach, Austria), which has 3,344 employees worldwide that are active in the fields of welding technology, photovoltaics and battery charging technology, where it has been granted 1,008 patents.
