Waukesha Metal Products Welcomes Students as Part of Campaign

Seventh-grade students from Alcott School tour the plant as part of the MMAC Council of Small Business Executive’s Be the Spark Education Tours program.

On Thursday, December 3, Waukesha® Metal Products (Sussex, WI) hosted 23 seventh-grade students from Alcott School as part of the MMAC’s Council of Small Business Executive’s (COSBE) Be the Spark Education Tours program. Students were welcomed by company president and chief executive officer Jeff Clark and participated in a short presentation, learned about the wide range of career paths in manufacturing, and toured the stamping and tooling facility in Sussex.

More than 50 seventh-grade classes from Milwaukee Public Schools will have the opportunity to experience hands on learning, meet industry professionals, and explore potential career paths at area businesses in an array of fields and industries. This program, underwritten by Southwest Airlines, Waukesha Metal Products and Superior Support Resources, grew out of the understanding that the future success of local businesses is rooted in a strong and sustainable workforce. By giving students access to local businesses, they can begin to see how their education and course selection directly relate to their future careers.

As chairman of the COSBE Education Committee, Clark leads COSBE’s efforts to expand the Be the Spark program to ultimately provide all Milwaukee Public School seventh grade students with inspiring hands on exploration of the many available careers in the area. “Providing career exploration opportunities like the Be the Spark business tours helps establish a link between the students and our businesses,” says Clark, “We need these students to fill the talent pipeline for the region’s economic vitality!”

From humble beginnings as a two man tool and die shop, Waukesha Metal Products has developed into an international full-service metalforming manufacturer, delivering the best-cost parts and assemblies in the industry since 1971.
