A High Fiber Diet

Fiber laser cutting systems are sweeping through metal fabrication shops because they are faster, more consistent, more cost effective, and more competitive.

Posted: January 7, 2016

The Optiplex Fiber II 6 kW fiber laser cutting system from Mazak Optonics offers superior edge quality, more stable cut performance and greater throughput for processing stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, aluminum, hastelloy, inconel, titanium, thin gage mild steel, and other exotic metals. There is no need for additional surface cleaning when painting mild steel cut with nitrogen.

Fabricators feed off a diet of faster, more consistent and more cost effective technology to stay competitive. This diet is currently high in fiber laser cutting applications that offer higher productivity over CO2 lasers for cutting metal that is 1/4 in thick or less. Fiber costs less to operate because it is more energy efficient. It has no maintenance requirements because there are no moving parts or mirrors. Fiber power fluctuates less while cutting for better overall stability. And though cutting thicker material was difficult in the past for the small high-density fiber laser beam, that limit is being erased with the advent of higher power lasers and how the laser cutting process is paced with nozzle automation and material handling automation.

Take a look at this menu of new fiber laser cutting systems and accessories to see if a new diet could help your shop become faster, more consistent, more cost effective, and more competitive:
