LTI Approved by Sandia National Laboratories
They are now certified to make critical measurements in mechanical and chemical testing.

Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI; Hatfield, PA) has been approved as a Commercial Testing Laboratory (CTL) for Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, NM) to make critical measurements associated with mechanical testing and chemical testing. Approval was awarded after a review of their measurement requirements, measuring and test equipment, and the associated calibration certificates indicating appropriate traceability.
The scope of this approval covers the following techniques according to test methods and specification requirements specified by Sandia:
Mechanical Property Testing/ Metals
- Rockwell Hardness of Metallic Materials
- Knoop and Vickers Hardness of Materials
- Brinell Hardness of Metallic Materials
- Tension Testing of Metallic Materials
- Preparation of Metallographic Specimens
- Average Grain Size
- Duplex Grain Sizes
- Largest Grain Observed in a Metallographic Section (ALA Grain Size)
- Macroetch Testing Steel Bars, Billets, Blooms, and Forgings
- Susceptibility to Intergranular Attack in Austenitic Stainless Steels
- Inclusion Content
Chemical Composition Testing/ Metals
- Determination of C, S, N, and O in Steel, Iron, Nickel and Cobalt Alloys by Various Combustion and Fusion Techniques
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry
All of the approved test processes are authorized under the Lab’s A2LA accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 per certificate numbers 117.02 and 117.05. The current CTL agreement will be in effect through March 31, 2017, to coincide with the A2LA accreditation expiration.
LTI is a single-location material testing laboratory offering an extensive list of mechanical, chemical, metallurgical and nondestructive testing services for metals, alloys, polymers and other materials. The laboratory provides testing services and certified test reports throughout Central and North America and Europe, and has been in business for over 30 years.
LTI also analyzes powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites and ceramics and is accredited by the PRI Nadcap program in materials and nondestructive testing and by A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 for mechanical, metallurgical and chemical testing, dimensional inspection and calibration services. The metallurgy division provides dimensional inspection services and NIST-traceable calibration services for measuring hand tools, masters and a wide-range of measuring instruments and equipment. On-site calibration, repairs, new instruments and replacement parts are offered.
Sandia National Laboratories is operated and managed by Sandia Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation that operates the Laboratories as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and supports numerous federal, state, and local government agencies, companies, and organizations.
