AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology (McLean, VA) presented the Albert W. Moore AMT Leadership Award to industry icon Marcus B. Crotts at its annual business meeting in Palm Desert, CA. Crotts is the founder of Crotts & Saunders Engineering LLC (Winston-Salem, NC), and was recognized for his outstanding support of the manufacturing technology industry.

“This award honors those individuals from our industry who have gone above and beyond by carrying out the mission of the association, and who have had a dramatic impact on our industry,” said Douglas Woods, the president of AMT. “Marcus has distinguished himself as an outstanding innovator, leader and advocate for the manufacturing technology and engineering industry.”

For 57 years he led Crotts & Saunders Engineering, a full-service machine tool distributor. Through his leadership, the company has become nationally recognized for its impact on manufacturing processes through improved basic design methodologies. As the board chair of the American Machine Tool Distributors Association in the 1980s, he skillfully guided the association during the introduction of CNC technology.

Throughout his career, Crotts has spearheaded numerous educational, technical and civic organizations to promote the professional development of engineers and machinists. He is internationally recognized for his service and contributions to engineering and civic affairs to encourage high moral values in all vocations and peace throughout the world.

“I am totally surprised and very grateful for this award. My father’s work as a machinist and his drive to be accurate inspired me to learn more about machining and engineering,” said Crotts in his acceptance speech. “For almost 60 years, I have been saying manufacturing creates wealth and this concept is not well understood by those outside the industry.”

He encouraged members to promote manufacturing. AMT would like to congratulate Marcus Crotts on his well-deserved award and thank him for his years of service to the association and the industry.
