ASTM Names New Committee Chairs
Margaret Farabaugh now heads Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products, and Charles Blanton heads Copper and Copper Alloys.

Margaret A. Farabaugh, a technical services engineer for The Techs (Turtle Creek, PA) a Division of Steel Dynamics, has been named chairwoman of Committee A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products for ASTM International (West Conshohocken, PA). Formed in 1906, A05 has over 270 members representing 21 countries and includes eight technical subcommittees that oversee more than 70 standards related to iron and steel products protected against corrosion by use of metallic coating.
Farabaugh has been a member of ASTM since 2004. She has been with The Techs since 2001, having previously served as project manager at USX Engineers & Consultants, Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. She also received an Award of Appreciation for her work on Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, and the Outstanding Service Award for her work on Committee A05.
In related news, Charles B. Blanton, the corporate director of environmental, health and safety at Mueller Industries, Inc. (Memphis, TN), has been named chairman of Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys. Formed in 1928, B05 has over 210 members representing nine countries and includes 12 technical subcommittees that oversee 150 standards related to the development of qualifications data and test methods, and the research on copper shapes, castings, and copper alloy wrought products.
Blanton has been a member of ASTM since 1999 and has been with Mueller since 1991, having previously served as an environmental engineer and support process manager. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Belmont Abbey College, a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and previously received the Arthur Cohen Memorial B05 Distinguished Service Award in 2012 and the ASTM Copper Club Award in 2015. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.
