The compact MU-4000V 5-axis vertical machining center from Okuma provides a large work envelope with high speed, process intensive machining combined with turning and 5-axis multitasking machining that is ideal for aerospace and other parts that require full 5-axis capabilities.
The HJ-400 horizontal CNC lathe from Okuma is an affordable, entry-level lathe with a FANUC control for exceptional flexibility that can be equipped with an extended bed to accommodate a variety of workpieces for maximum flexibility and throughput.
With a high-speed grinding wheel spindle that is ideal for cutting mass produced small parts with precision, the GPW/GAW grinder series from Okuma uses an intelligent, open architecture OSP-P300G CNC control to fully integrate the machine, motors, drives and encoders with standard Chatter Control that automatically adjusts wheel speed for accurate, stable machining.

The new MU-4000V vertical machining center from Okuma America Corporation (Charlotte, NC) is excellent for 5-axis multi-sided machining and is well suited for the aerospace and die/mold industries. It provides high speed, process intensive machining combined with turning and 5-axis multitasking machining. This versatile machine features a large work envelope and substantial base in a compact footprint. Its sturdy design boasts a machine mass of 9,700 kg and the B-axis trunnion is fully supported so there is no overhanging mass. Fully supported axes construction allows for a broad scope of spindles ranging from 12K rpm to 25K rpm to efficiently handle complex and difficult to machine materials.

The unique and automation friendly design places the pallet changes at the back of the machine, allowing easy connection to a PALLETACE flexible manufacturing system or pallet pool, delivering high productivity in addition to high accuracy. ATCs can be configured to meet growing demands with 32-tool to 64-tool chain magazine systems and 64-plus matrix cabinets. The MU-4000V can be equipped with the exclusive Super-NURBS function that enables high feed rates and ultra-fine finishes. Built using the Thermo-Friendly Concept, this 5-axis machining center performs consistently from the first part to the last, regardless of warm up time or ambient temperatures. Standard 5-Axis Auto Tuning System technology automatically measures and compensates for up to 11 geometric errors to ensure precision machining.

The MU-4000V was named one of the Best 10 New Products of 2015 by Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun’s Business & Technology Daily News. For larger 5-axis parts, the MU-V series also includes the MU-6300V and MU-8000V.

In other equipment applications, Okuma offers the HJ-400 horizontal CNC lathe that offers many of the advantages of the GENOS lathe series with a FANUC control, providing an affordable, entry-level lathe with exceptional flexibility. This machine tool can be equipped with an extended bed to accommodate a variety of workpieces for maximum flexibility and throughput. Built on a one-piece, cast iron base with a horizontal way system and hand-scraped headstock and tailstock mounting surfaces with two-point bearing support, this machine provides stability, rigidity and accuracy for a variety of applications. A gearless spindle reduces vibration and heat, minimizing thermal deformation for maximum productivity.

A user-friendly design maximizes productivity by allowing effortless workpiece loading and unloading and easy access to tooling. Chuck and tailstock controls are located at the front of the machine. A right discharge, hinge chip conveyor is standard. Key Features of the HJ-400 Horizontal CNC Lathe include:

  • Max Turning Diameter        mm (in)           Ø330 (Ø 12.99)
  • Spindle Nose Type           A2-8
  • Speed Range                 min⁻¹             30~3,000
  • Power 15 min/cont. kW (hp)  5 (15)
  • Rapid Traverse (X/Z)        m (in)/min      20/25 (787/984)
  • Standard 10 in Chuck

The GPW/GAW grinder series from Okuma is now equipped with the intelligent OSP-P300G CNC control. The open architecture OSP-P control runs on a Windows®-based platform and fully integrates the machine, motors, drives and encoders, allowing for enhanced machine performance and true customization to suit particular machining needs. The Easy Operation control and touch screen increase efficiency by letting users easily and quickly toggle between machine operations, programming and wheel preparation screens. The innovative wheelhead traverse structure gives these grinders a solid, compact footprint that saves valuable machine floor space while the user-friendly design allows various workpieces to be loaded effortlessly for easy automation in high production environments. The extremely rigid foundation allows for heavy-duty cutting and high speed grinding of 5.5 kW with an optional 7.5 kW.

The series is equipped with standard Chatter Control function that automatically adjusts wheel speed for accurate, stable machining. The high-speed grinding wheel spindle is ideal for cutting mass produced small parts with precision. Included in this grinder series are the GP14W, 15W, GA14W and 15W. Key features of the GPW/GAW series include:

  • OSP-P300G control
  • Dead center workhead (Std: C type)
  • Chucking headstock (T specs standard)
  • Tailstock quill stroke 35 mm
  • Wheel spindle motor: 5.5 kW (10 hp) (inverter drive)
