Absolute Machine Tools Acquires MTT-21

The deal strengthens their onsite service, repair, engineering, technical support and turnkey services in a down market.

Absolute Machine Tools, Inc. (Lorain, OH) has reached an agreement to acquire Chicago area distributor Machine Tool Technology-21, Inc. (MTT-21; Schaumburg, IL) into its operations. Founded by Mark Ulanov in 1987, MTT-21 is a longtime Absolute distributor that is well known for distributing CNC machine tools, such as Kitamura. They have an exceptional reputation and will further enhance Absolute’s onsite service and repair, engineering and technical support, and turnkey services.

Steve Ortner, the president of Absolute, stated, “This acquisition combines the global resources of our company with the capabilities and excellent local reputation of MTT-21. It is evidence of our dedication to Illinois and Wisconsin manufacturers, and also confirms the company’s strength in a down market.”

With the merger, Absolute has added even more machine tool professionals to its Midwest Technical Center in Elgin, IL. The new personnel include:

  • Mark Ulanov, the president and owner of MTT-21, who has more than 30 years of machine tool sales experience and market knowledge;
  • Rob Grimm, with 25 years at MTT-21 and over 30 years of machine tool applications and service experience, including extensive work in turnkey packages, installation projects, training and demonstrations;
  • Dave Marzullo, with more than 25 years of machine tool sales experience at MTT-21 and more than 30 years industry experience overall;
  • Andrey Avakov, who has worked in machine tool sales at MTT-21 for four years;
  • Todd Romeiser, who was recently MC Machinery’s (Mitsubishi’s U.S. EDM headquarters) national sales manager for milling and turning and has over 20 years of experience in EDM applications and sales management. He also spent time at Sodick, Tornos, ONA, and AgieCharmilles.

“We are happy to add these industry veterans to our team to better serve our customers in Illinois and Wisconsin,” added Ortner. Absolute Machine Tools sells and supports You Ji Vertical Turret Lathes; Johnford Sliding Double Column Machining Centers; Tongtai Horizontal Machining Centers; AccuteX EDM wire, sinker, and hole drilling machines; Nexturn CNC Swiss lathes; and Precihole gun drilling machines.

The company has worked with several of its principal CNC machine tool partners nearly 30 years to offer some of the most heavy-duty, accurate, and productive machines in the industry. They have built a reputation on exemplary applications engineering, service, customer support, comprehensive training, and effective preventive-maintenance programs. In addition to its headquarters in Lorain, the company has established direct full-service technical centers in Mason, OH, Elgin, IL, and Livonia, MI.
