North American Schools Win Grants from Hypertherm

Each winning school in the 2016 Spark Something Great program receives equipment and training.

Ten high schools, vocational schools, community colleges and universities located throughout North America will each receive a Powermax45 plasma cutting and gouging system, AWS SENSE approved “Plasma Cutting Technology: Theory and Practice” curriculum kit, and in-person training from an industrial cutting expert from Hypertherm Inc. (Hanover, NH) as winners of their 2016 Spark Something Great grant. The recipients are as follows:

  • Amboy High School – Amboy, IL
  • ILBOCES – Ellicottville, NY
  • Central Piedmont Community College – Charlotte, NC
  • Hartford Area Career & Technology Center- White River Junction, VT
  • Maple Mountain High School – Spanish Fork, UT
  • St. Stephen High School – St. Stephen, NB, Canada
  • Trades Training Initiative – Peace River, AB, Canada
  • University of Texas Tyler – Tyler, TX
  • Washington County High School – Washington, KS
  • Wilson Technological Center – Dix Hills, NY

In related news, free licenses of ProNest® CAD/CAM software from Hypertherm are now available to North American schools, trade unions, and other training facilities as part of an expansive commitment to the next generation of fabricating professionals. Qualifying educational institutions will receive a 30-seat network license for the current version of the software and a curriculum package with an instructor guide and student workbook.

Students can learn how to bring CAD drawings into production, define part lists, determine material utilization, schedule production, establish accurate costing, and understand material requirements planning (MRP). Access to powerful features such as automatic nesting, skeleton cut-up, common line cutting, chain and bridge cutting, and collision avoidance is included. Students can also interface with popular 3D software platforms, such as SolidWorks and Inventor, and use parametric pipe templates.
