GE Aviation Honored by Hexagon MI
They are recognized for their work in developing highly efficient non-contact measurement and inspection of the blisk flowpath of aeroengines.

General Electric Aviation (Cincinnati, OH), a customer of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence (North Kingstown, RI), has been named as an honoree in the Shaping Smart Change Recognition Program that recognizes customer excellence in visionary practices, global leadership, partnership and innovation. This year’s honorees were announced during the Innovation 360 event at HxGN LIVE 2016 hosted by Hexagon in Anaheim, CA, with more than 3,000 people in attendance.
The Shaping Smart Change Recognition Program selects honorees that are considered to have achieved distinction in their fields and exemplify excellence, pushing the boundaries of innovation. GE Aviation, a leading global manufacturer and service provider for jet engines, was recognized for their influence in the development of a highly-efficient non-contact measurement solution for inspecting the blisk flowpath of aeroengines.
“The Hexagon MI and GE teams have worked hard in the last year to jointly cut blisk inspection time in half,” stated Eric Hogarth, the manager of inspection at GE Aviation. “I gave them a challenge to apply the HP-O optical sensor technology to blisk measurement in a timely manner and they responded. We have provided them with specific direction, risk analysis and comprehensive tasks to deliver a complete measurement solution, and given candid feedback.” The system developed as a result of this request resulted in a significant cycle time reduction of compressor blade aerofoil inspection processes.
“They are a very demanding customer and with this project they really pushed us to use our technology and expertise to develop a ground-breaking system,” stated Angus Taylor, the president of Hexagon MI. “We are inspired by their vision and we are very pleased to name them our Shaping Smart Change honoree for 2016.”
