In his new role as a research engineer, he will lead technical tasks for embedding fiber optic strain sensors into metals and will continue the development of the patented Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing process (UAM).

Fabrisonic LLC (Columbus, OH), a manufacturer of Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing machines and 3D metal printing, announces the addition of a new engineer to its technical staff, Dr. Adam Hehr. As a research engineer, he will lead technical tasks for embedding fiber optic strain sensors into metals and will continue the development of their patented Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing process (UAM).

Hehr recently completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University, where his doctoral dissertation topic was “Process Control and Development for Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing Structure with Embedded Fibers.” Prior to accepting a full-time position, Hehr was an engineering intern with Fabrisonic during summer 2015. He has additional work experience with Los Alamos National Lab (Los Alamos, NM) and Etegent Technologies Ltd. (Cincinnati, OH). He holds both a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

“Adam made great strides as an intern and had impact on our engineering team,” commented Mark Norfolk, the chief executive officer of Fabrisonic. “We’re very excited he has chosen to join our team full-time.”

Fabrisonic provides 3D metal printing services in a wide range of metals through low‐temperature, Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing technology that harnesses sound waves to merge layers of metal foil in a process that requires no melting. Building in the solid state enables the joining of dissimilar metals and other thermally sensitive materials, such as electronics.
