Precision Gages with The User in Mind

Dorsey Metrology uses carbon fiber to reduce the weight of their gages up to 90 percent and increase their accuracy and repeatability by reducing their thermal coefficient to near zero.

In Booth E-5660, Dorsey Metrology International (Poughkeepsie, NY), a leader for more than 60 years in custom gaging applications, will display their new Carbon Fiber Snap Gages. They have continued to expand their use of carbon fiber technology by developing it into fixed and adjustable Large Diameter Gages, Bore Gages, C-Frames, and now Snap Gages. These gages are built with shop users in mind. Many classic gages are made with steel and aluminum that require plastic handles and specific holding points to reduce the effect of thermal expansion on the measurement. The use of carbon fiber has allowed Dorsey to reduce the weight of their gages by up to 90 percent while concurrently increasing the accuracy and repeatability of the gages by reducing the thermal coefficient to near zero.

Using one of these carbon fiber gages allows the employee to hold the device in a more ergonomic fashion with less effort, and without thermal expansion jeopardizing the measurement. These innovations not only provide shop employees with the safety they require, but also increase their efficiency and effectiveness by reducing the amount of effort and time required to perform each repetition. In addition to allowing shops to operate more efficiently and in a safer environment, the use of carbon fiber has allowed Dorsey to continuously innovate new solutions to large cumbersome problems. Unlike many competitors who only offer an assortment of standardized products, Dorsey allows shops to customize any product in their catalog to meet their specific needs. In fact, they recently produced a 43 in Carbon Fiber C-Frame Large Diameter gage that weighs less than 8 lb, a weight reduction of 80 percent versus a traditional aluminum gage.

On top of creating new products, Dorsey has also expanded the utility of several adjustable Bore Gages by extending gaging depths from 6 ft to 20 ft with the use of carbon fiber. Dorsey produces every gage in Poughkeepsie, almost entirely of domestic materials. Shops that use Bore Gages, Snap Gages, Larges Diameter Gages, Optical Comparators, Indicators, and Vision Systems should stop by to see several carbon fiber examples on display along with other new products, all aimed at making your shop more efficient, productive, and safer.
