Field applications in pipeline construction require reliable, rugged equipment that stands up to rough conditions on the job site. The SAE-300® MP Pure DC Generator Welder, the latest engine-driven welder from The Lincoln Electric® Company (Cleveland, OH), responds to these challenges, delivering consistent power and maximum control no matter how hot or cold, how long the pipeline or how tough the job. This engine-driven welder features Temperature Stabilization™ that enables operators to “set it and forget it,” eliminating any need for adjustments based on ambient conditions or a warm-up period. Its standard, built-in CV output contactor supports all wire-welding processes and eliminates the need for a separate wire feeder module and the downtime associated with installing it. An OCV Boost function can be used to aid starting and low-amperage welding, while a standard, on-board block heater pre-heats the engine for use in cold environments.

The SAE-300 MP features a 24.7 hp Perkins® water-cooled, turbo-charged engine. The machine produces 300 amps DC/32 volts at 60 percent duty cycle and 250 amps DC/30 volts at 100 percent duty cycle. It also provides 3,000 watts of AC generator power. All-copper windings and flat DC output ensure a smooth, stable arc that enhances arc control to help operators keep defects to a minimum, avoiding cutouts and costly repairs. With the dual, continuous current control, operators can use the coarse control to set a digging penetrating arc for root beads or a softer arc for stacking iron on the fill and cap passes. Remote control allows operators to dial in the fine control to adjust heat input or arc sensitivity in response to the weld puddle’s fit-up and orientation. The SAE-300 MP’s larger fuel tank keeps refueling at a minimum. The 16 gal tank is almost 50 percent larger than the competitor’s 11 gal tank, translating into longer run times, improved efficiency and greater cost savings.

Lincoln Electric also offers their new Cross Country™ 300 engine-driven welder that is specifically designed for the process piping welding operator who demands an excellent arc, small dimensions and low weight, easy-to-use controls and substantial AC generator power:

  • It’s All About the Arc – Tuned by pipeline welders for pipeline welders, the Cross Country 300 is excellent for root, fill and cap passes and designed for cellulosic or low hydrogen stick electrodes.
  • The Size is Right – The small footprint saves space on the rig truck bed, while its low height allows for clear visibility through the truck’s back window.
  • Easy to Use – Dual current controls are designed for pipeline welding and the few, simple controls improve simplicity and reliability. Dual sliding doors make it easy to access the engine for routine maintenance, even when on the truck.
  • Flexible – The Cross Country 300 supports DC stick, wire and TIG processes, easily connects to Lincoln Electric wire feeders and includes a powerful AC generator to power grinders, pumps and travel trailers.

The Cross Country 300 features a 22 hp Kubota® water-cooled Tier 4 Final diesel engine. This machine produces 300 amps DC/32 volts at 100 percent duty cycle and a range of 40 amps to 300 amps. In addition, the Cross Country 300 produces 11,000 watts of three-phase continuous and 10,000 watts of single-phase continuous AC generator power.

Lincoln Electric also offers the next wave of pipe seam submerged arc welding: Lincolnweld® Emergence™ non-copper coated submerged arc wire for pipe seam applications. This wire has proprietary surface treatment to improve wire conductivity (over competitive non-copper coated wire) and help welders avoid common processing flaws that can lead to costly repairs and excess scrap. The surface treatment protects material and performs the same as copper coated wires in the same alloy class. Additionally, the elimination of surface copper in Emergence decreases the risk of weld contamination.

The right selection of contact tip and wire is critical to maintaining an optimal production process. Emergence wire doubles the life of contact tips, which means consistent arc starts, wire placement and weld deposit, and less downtime and lost production due to frequent change outs. Lincoln Electric contact tips and Emergence wire deliver the performance that welders expect to keep their production process operating at a high level. Emergence is part of a comprehensive product line to support every pipe seam application. The exact wire composition of the copper coated wires makes requalification for welding procedures controlled by classification easy.

Lincoln Electric has also introduced performance updates to their Pipeliner® LH-D 80, 90 and 100 stick electrodes that are specifically designed for high-strength, vertical-down pipe welding. These SMAW (stick) electrodes are ideal for use on 70 ksi to 90 ksi pipe. The durable coating on Pipeliner LH-D stays intact without breaking during shipping and in use. This same coating delivers more than 80 percent greater productivity over traditional vertical-up pipe welding. Pipeliner LH-D is easy to use for welders of all experience levels, exhibiting excellent puddle control and no ‘spill’ at the bottom of the pipe. These SMAW stick electrodes have been the number one choice of fabricators and are easily identified by three dots that are a symbol of quality, consistency and unparalleled welding expertise. Their improved performance characteristics include:

  • Easy to use – Easy transition for welders experienced with cellulosic electrodes.
  • Durable coating – Coating doesn’t break in shipping or in use.
  • Q2 lot controlled and tested with actual deposit composition and mechanical properties for each lot.
  • Meets H4R low hydrogen and moisture resistant requirements.

Lincoln Electric also rolls out their new wired and wireless remotes for top pipeline and construction engine-driven welders. These new remote controls for the Cross Country 300 and SAE-300 MP engine-driven welders aim to streamline operations for pipeline welders and those working in construction applications. There are two new wired remote control units and new welders with factory-installed wireless remote systems. The wireless remote controls are factory-installed in textured, stainless steel case and gray-painted steel case versions of the Cross Country 300. A textured stainless steel case and wireless remote are also offered on the SAE-300 MP welder. These small, weather-resistant remotes fit right into the operators’ hands and have a 400 ft (122 m) range, depending on site obstructions.

The new wired remote controls, available with or without an 115V AC power duplex receptacle, include a generous 125 ft (38.1 m) detachable cable. A customizable Min/Max range sets easily in seconds. The small, weather-resistant units stow easily in trucks or job boxes. Both units are offered as accessories for Cross Country 300 and SAE-300 MP welders. The K4268-1 Wired Remote with an 115V AC auxiliary power duplex receptacle also comes bundled in new One-Pak® packages for the Cross Country 300 and SAE-300 MP.
