The World’s Smallest and Strongest Clamping System

The extremely thin VERO-S NSE mini pneumatic quick-change module from SCHUNK is ideal for retrofitting and fully utilizing existing machines to directly clamp and process small precision parts used in medical technology.

With a height of only 20 mm, the VERO-S NSE mini pneumatic quick-change module from SCHUNK is extremely thin, making it ideal for retrofitting existing machines to achieve full utilization of the machine area and direct clamping of small precision workpieces being manufactured for use in medical technology.

For the production of small precision components used in medical technology, SCHUNK, Inc. (Morrisville, NC) has expanded its line of modules for efficient workpiece clamping. With a height of only 20 mm, the VERO-S NSE mini pneumatic quick-change module is extremely thin, making it ideal for retrofitting existing machines to achieve full utilization of the machine area and direct clamping of small workpieces. A patented dual stroke actuation concept ensures extremely high clamping performance of the module. With a module diameter of 90 mm and a clamping pin diameter of 20 mm, the standard integrated turbo function of the NSE mini achieves significant pull-in forces of up to 1,500 N. The clamping pin is positioned by short tapers and retained by three clamping slides. Locking is achieved mechanically by means of a spring assembly. It is self-locking and designed for form-fit clamping. Large contact areas between the clamping slides and the pins minimize the surface compression in clamped state, reducing wear on the modules.

Because the minimum distance between two clamping pins is only 100 mm, the NSE mini can be used to achieve very small and variable borehole gauges for workpiece or pallet clamping. This enables unprecedented flexibility in the area of quick-change pallet systems. To maximize the life span and process reliability, NSE mini – like all VERO-S modules is equipped with all functional parts such as the base body, clamping pins, and clamping slide, all of which are made of stainless steel. In addition, the low-maintenance, fully sealed modules are protected against chips, dust, and coolant. The machining of small parts becomes especially efficient with fully automatic loading of the machining center. For this purpose the base plate of the VERO-S NSE mini can be provided with a hole for an air purge connection under the clamping pin opening. The air purge prevents chips from becoming lodged in the module during workpiece changing by a gantry or robot. The clamping slide position can also be monitored.
