Equipment uptime is vital for the success of mission-critical business. More uptime means lower costs and higher customer satisfaction. To help their customers get the most production possible out of the 8,760 hours available each year, Fastems LLC (West Chester, OH), a leading independent Finnish manufacturer of factory automation systems, has integrated ThingWorx® technology from PTC Inc. (Needham, MA) into their flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). This technology facilitates new remote systems monitoring and condition-based maintenance and service options that enable their customers to increase system uptime and production capacity.

“Our mission is to enable efficient and reliable production for metalworking shops,” explained Janne Harri Kivinen, the chief information officer at Fastems. “Through ThingWorx, we offer customers new solutions and services that allow shops to enhance production, lower costs and increase production capacity. Both their and our maintenance personnel can keep an eye on operations from any location, while determining areas that require service.” The ThingWorx platform is integrated into the ICT systems portfolio so that service personnel can diagnose and resolve potential issues and service all equipment through remote monitoring. “As more devices become linked to the Internet, engineers and service personnel are able to see critical data in real time, optimize production and gain insight into areas of improvement, whilst improving time to value,” added Filip Stal, the director of Nordic Sales at PTC.
