The iBumpTest app for the Apple iPad from GTI Predictive Technology measures the resonance of a system and the effect of a change of mass, a change in stiffness, or a change in damping.

Posted: August 29, 2017

The iBumpTest from GTI Predictive Technology measures the natural frequency of a mechanical system to better understand the resonance of the system and the effect of a change of mass, a change in stiffness or a change in damping. The iBumpTest kit includes the iBumpTest app, an impact hammer with modular heads for different applications and a cable for use with either a GTI-220 wireless sensor or a wired DAQ system.

The iBumpTest app for the Apple iPad from GTI Predictive Technology, Inc. (Manchester, NH) determines the natural frequency of a mechanical system as a controlled measurement. This is important to understanding the resonance of a system and the effect of a change of mass, a change in stiffness, or a change in damping. This app has been developed for the powerful VibePro family that includes the VibePro 8, a complete, affordable predictive maintenance solution for iPad. iBumpTest is available as a kit that can be added to any iPad that already uses VibePro.

iBumpTest is also available as a standalone kit for new users. Additional hardware is required for standalone kits, which include the iBumpTest app, an impact hammer with modular heads for different applications, and a cable for use with either a GTI-220 wireless sensor or a wired DAQ solution.

Condition monitoring, M2M and the IoT have reached a new height with VibePro 8, which is the compilation of two years’ worth of work, thousands of hours and customer input. This app combines the simplicity of VibePro 7 with the flexibility of raw data collection and analysis that level 2 and 3 vibration analysts require. Developed for the iPad, the VibePro product family offers solutions for vibration analysis, dynamic balancing, infrared thermography and shaft laser alignment on a single device. This technology has enabled one of the most seamless and easy to use predictive maintenance packages on the market. Using the iPad as a product platform allows GTI to offer predictive technology and condition monitoring for a quarter of the cost of comparable systems in the market today.

In this cohesive system, where all of the tools integrate seamlessly with one another, the vibration analysis software has been written to communicate directly to the alignment component. Any reports generated from the shaft laser alignment unit can be instantly accessed in VibePro 8. Now when a corrective action is taken, the technician not only makes a note of what went wrong, but also includes a full report. IR photos and data can be integrated into these reports as well. VibePro 8 also includes features for:

  • Route data collection.
  • On-site vibration analysis.
  • Correlation between vibration readings and alignment condition.
  • Instant e-mail for reports.
  • Machine verification and acceptance reports.
