Sculpture Auction to Raise Money for Metalworking Education

Sculptures by artist Albert Paley and Jesse James of Monster Garage will be used to provide grants and educational opportunities for careers in the metalworking trades.

Jesse James of West Coast Choppers fame (left) and renowned artist Albert Paley (right) congratulate each other after the unveiling of their sculptures at the opening of the FABTECH 2017 trade show in Chicago. The sculpture at the left, called "Raiden," was started by Paley and finished by James. It is one of two sculptures that will be auctioned on November 17 by the Wright auction house in Chicago to raise money for educational efforts that support metalworking education and careers.

Renowned artist Albert Paley and Jesse James of Monster Garage fame each started a sculpture that the other finished. These sculptures were unveiled on November 6 to open the 2017 FABTECH Expo in Chicago and will now be auctioned off at noon on Friday, November 17, by the Wright auction house at 1440 W. Hubbard Street in Chicago.

Proceeds from the sale of these sculptures will benefit the five FABTECH cosponsors: American Welding Society (AWS; Miami, Florida); Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA; Elgin, IL); SME (Dearborn, IL); Precision Metalforming Association (PMA; Independence, OH); and Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI; Taylor Mill, KY), each supporting grants and educational opportunities for careers in the metalworking trades.

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (ESAB; Florence, SC) is working with these five cosponsors to support the project. “These sculptures offer collectors a once in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Sue Bartholomew, the director of global marketing communications and operations for ESAB. “This is the first time that Albert Paley has collaborated with another artist, and he might never do so again. Albert joined with Jesse because of their mutual passion for supporting the future of metalworking. We hope to spread the word of this auction so that the sculptures can secure the most competitive bid.”
