“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the effort with Greg in delivering industry leading machinery to customers.”
Milwaukee-based business owner Greg Knight has acquired Komppa Machinery Group Inc. (KMG; Brookfield, WI), a Brookfield-based manufacturer of roll forming machinery. Marcus Poppler has joined him as a minority owner of the company, which will be renamed Knight Manufacturing and will continue to manufacture roll forming machinery in the United States. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Knight has a passion for manufacturing. His previous acquisitions include Standard Tar Products (now Knight Chemicals), and McDermott Cue, a Menomonee Falls-based manufacturer of pool cues. “We are very excited about the opportunity to take this company forward. The machinery is top quality and known for running at the fastest rates,” said Knight said. “It is great to keep American manufacturing going and we look to keep that tradition alive going forward.”
KMG was originally founded in the 1930s as a roll forming division of Artos Engineering and later spun off in the 1990s as Emerald Industries, which was later renamed Komppa Machinery Group and found lasting success with their leading line of Artos-branded roll formers that are used for a wide range of applications, including building products and HVAC. Knight hopes, with Poppler’s help, to continue this success by increasing the capabilities of existing equipment, along with the creation of new machines to meet customers’ changing needs.
Poppler holds a diploma in Mold Making from Hennepin Technical College (Eden Prairie, MN) and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He also brings 15 years of real-world experience in various manufacturing roles. In his new role, Poppler will be using his expertise to run the day-to-day operations and develop new products to help the company expand into additional markets. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the effort with Greg in delivering industry leading machinery to customers,” he said.
