Automated Orbital Wrapper Senses Pallet, Wraps, Discharges

To speed up the packaging process with a hands-free, safety-first approach, these PLC-controlled orbital wrappers from TAB Industries allow a single lift truck driver to manage the entire wrapping function without leaving their seat.

At the push of a button or by wireless remote control from a forklift, the automated Wrapper Tornado orbital wrapping machine from TAB Industries senses the presence of a pallet load set on the load conveyor, calculates the pallet length and midpoint, advances the pallet into the wrapping ring, wraps plastic film 360 deg around and under the pallet and its load, and discharges the unitized load to a discharge conveyor for transport or storage.
The wireless remote control used with Wrapper Tornado orbital wrapping machines from TAB Industries enables forklift drivers to start, operate and stop the wrapping process at the press of a button without leaving the seat of the lift truck. The remote operation eliminates the potential for human contact with sharp, metal parts while creating a secure, unitized, weather-resistant load ready for immediate transport or indoor-outdoor storage in as little as 15 seconds per pallet with a single operator.

A new line of automated orbital wrappers in the TAB Wrapper Tornado line from TAB Industries, LLC (Reading, PA) wraps plastic film 360 deg around and under the pallet and its load at the push of a button or by wireless remote control from a forklift. Featuring a proprietary sensor array, these new orbital wrapping machines automatically sense the presence of a pallet load set on the load conveyor and calculate the pallet length and midpoint, then advance the pallet load into the wrapping ring. After wrapping the preset number of wraps at the front, middle and back of the pallet for the ideal amount of film coverage, the unitized pallet load advances to the discharge conveyor ready for transport or storage. When the wrapped pallet is removed from the discharge, the next pallet load automatically advances for wrapping using a single-in, single-out setup for a smooth, efficient workflow.

Developed to speed the packaging process with a hands-free, safety-first approach, these PLC-controlled orbital wrappers allow a single lift truck driver to manage the entire wrapping function without leaving their seat. The new line of stretch-wrappers comprises three standard models with 100 in, 80 in and 40 in wrapping rings and is available in custom sizes as needed. These packaging machines are manufactured in the Reading headquarters and ship fully assembled, with a full warranty ready to plug in and operate.

The wireless remote control option used with the Wrapper Tornado orbital wrapping machines features a hand-held device that enables forklift drivers to start, operate and stop the wrapping process at the press of a button without leaving the seat of the lift truck. While a palletized load is raised on a forklift, the driver approaches the wrapping ring, presses the start button, and monitors the Wrapper Tornado as it automatically encases both the pallet and pallet load in 360 degrees of plastic film. The remote operation eliminates the potential for human contact with sharp, metal parts while creating a secure, unitized, weather-resistant load ready for immediate transport or indoor-outdoor storage in as little as 15 seconds per pallet with a single operator.

This wireless remote is offered as a stand-alone upgrade or as part of an optional automation package that also includes a companion, automated cut and wrap device that cuts the film from the roll without requiring operator contact with the blade. The wireless upgrade is available on the three standard models and may be included on custom models to meet virtually any size or packaging requirements.
