Lincoln Electric Offers Workshops for Welding Educators

Held throughout the year, these four- to five-day seminars are geared toward instructors who want to take their welding education to the next level.

Posted: April 17, 2018

The Welding Educator’s Workshop and the Advanced Welding Educator’s Workshop Series, as well as the Beyond the Booth Instructor Course, ensure that instructors are ready to step into the classroom and teach the next generation of welders.

There is a science and an art to welding, and also in teaching students how to weld. That’s why The Lincoln Electric Company (Cleveland, OH) holds exclusive educator workshops throughout the year. These four- to five-day seminars are geared toward instructors who want to take their welding education to the next level. “As the welding industry rapidly evolves, so does the need for skilled welding instructors and curriculum,” says Chris Gandee, the manager of Lincoln Electric Education Services. “Welding educators must not only keep up with new technologies and techniques, but also thoroughly understand best practices for how to teach the latest processes.”

The company has been committed to supporting current and future welders for more than 100 years and offers some of the industry’s most comprehensive products, curriculum and resources available for the welding education market today, including teaching aids and curriculum, welding equipment and consumables for every process, welding training systems, personal protection gear and tools, fume extraction and more. Their Welding Educator’s Workshop and the Advanced Welding Educator’s Workshop Series, as well as the Beyond the Booth Instructor Course, ensure that instructors are ready to step into the classroom and teach the next generation of welders.

Welding Educator’s Workshop
The Welding Educator’s Workshop is a four-day seminar, with an optional fifth day, that is focused on best practices for instructional delivery of welding process education topics, including:

  • Safety
  • SMAW
  • GMAW
  • FCAW
  • GTAW

This class is a prerequisite for the Advanced Educator’s Workshop Series. Start dates in 2018 are July 9, Aug. 6, and Oct. 15.

Advanced Welding Educator’s Workshop Series
The Advanced Educator’s Workshops are a series of process expertise classes. Each seminar provides a deeper dive into each arc welding process:

  • SMAW
  • GMAW
  • FCAW
  • GTAW

There is also a focus on new technologies, classroom training aids and the use of virtual reality welding simulators and other training systems throughout the course. Educators may attend one class or the entire series to earn Lincoln Electric Educator Partner Schools (LEEPS) instructor qualifications. Start dates in 2018 are July 30; Aug. 13; and Oct. 29.

Beyond the Booth™ Instructor Course
The Beyond the Booth Instructor Course is designed for instructors that have little or no formal teacher training. Current welding instructors will also benefit from learning new instructional techniques and ways to engage students at a higher level. Over the course of five days, participants will study:

  • Learning styles
  • Student motivation
  • Effective teaching techniques
  • Curriculum design and lesson planning
  • Formative and summative assessments
  • Lab and classroom management
  • Presentation skills

Participants will leave the course with the tools to successfully teach welding education. Start dates in 2018 are June 11; July 16; and July 30. In each of the instructor-focused classes above, participants receive a Lincoln Electric plant tour and library of resources to use in their classrooms. They also are given a Lincoln Electric Welding School graduation certificate, as well as a souvenir, upon successful completion of the course. In addition, instructors at qualified welding schools may audit and participate in any Lincoln Electric Welding School standard class at a substantial 70 percent discount. This list includes classes for every arc welding process, ASME or API pipe welding, motorsports welding, alloys, cutting, welding design and more.

Seminars and workshops will take place in the new Welding Technology & Training Center that features expanded welding training facilities, seminar space, the latest equipment and more. This Center, designed in part with a focus on training-the-trainer, is intended to be a showcase for products, services and curriculum offered to welding educators at every level.
