Walter Machines Launches Flow Assembly Line

Their new multi-million euro line is designed for producing Helitronic Power, Helitronic Mini Power and Helitronic Vision 400 L tool grinding machines.

Posted: April 19, 2018

The new line features a fishbone-shaped component assembly line that feeds a 90 m long conveyor belt and creates a total of 18 assembly stations. Spanning the assembly facility, the new line brings products directly to the shipping department for packaging. The newly streamlined workflow is already improving the efficiency of Helitronic Power and Helitronic Mini Power production. The Helitronic Vision 400 L will be added later this year.

Walter Maschinenbau GmbH (Tübingen, Germany) launched a new flow assembly line in their production facility in Kuřim, Czech Republic. Speakers included Walter chief executive officer Jürgen Schock and flow assembly line project manager Markus Schulze, both of whom welcomed guests and introduced this new innovation prior to pressing a symbolic start button with the entire project team to launch the new line, which is designed for the production of the Helitronic Power, Helitronic Mini Power and Helitronic Vision 400 L tool grinding machines.

The new flow assembly line represents a multi-million euro investment aimed at improving process stability and production flexibility while reducing delivery and lead times. The new line features a fishbone-shaped component assembly line that feeds a 90 m long conveyor belt and creates a total of 18 assembly stations. Spanning the assembly facility, the new line brings products directly to the shipping department for packaging.

The newly streamlined workflow is already improving the efficiency of Helitronic Power and Helitronic Mini Power production and the company plans to add the Helitronic Vision 400 L later this year. Further innovations, such as a pick-to-light system that helps manage the supply of materials to the flow assembly line, have been incorporated into the production line for further efficiency. The flow engineering team next plans to target the logistics department for continued workflow and production optimization.
