Harlow Group Ltd. (Harlow, UK) ordered a new five-axis arc605 machine from GEFERTEC GmbH (Berlin, Germany) during the recent IMTS show in Chicago, IL. This machine will be installed in Harlow FastTech LLC, their recently launched U.S. subsidiary that will focus on job shop services for aerospace industries. Established in 1975, Harlow has full aerospace accreditation and provides a complete range of sheet metal fabrication services out of 65,000 sq ft of manufacturing space in the UK. With over 130 employees, they remain committed to invest in the latest technology to deliver outstanding service.

GEFERTEC provides 3DMP® additive manufacturing technology that uses well-proven electric arc welding and is therefore benefiting from wire as original material. The near-net-shaped part is formed welding layer by welding layer. This technology is faster and more cost-effective compared to other methods that are based on powder as original material. The five-axis arc605 is able to print parts up to a volume of 0.8 m3. Special 3DMP CAM software calculates the data out of the CAD model, which enables the CNC unit to position the welding head with high precision. The machine produces a near-net-shape part fully, automatically. The costs of these arc machines are comparable to a small CNC milling center, which is significantly lower than other 3D printing machines. This additive manufacturing technology is the ideal system for fast and economical production of larger parts made of steel, nickel-based alloys, titanium, or aluminium.
