Battery-Powered Welding System Fits on Your Back

Battery technology that is powerful enough for useful and functional structural steel welding has not been available – until now, with the Tactical Welder from UltraTech.

Posted: December 8, 2018

The Tactical Welder from UltraTech is a portable battery-powered welding system that works off of a single battery pack capable of generating 300 amps and produce a weld that meets AWS D1.1 structural steel requirements on a ⅜ in steel plate. It is powered by a 528 Wh lithium-ion battery pack and safely controls charging and discharging functions using an electronic Battery Management System. The weld gun is a 300 A industrial-grade spool gun wire-feed welder.

Until now, battery technology powerful enough to produce the intense energy required to perform useful and functional welds was not available. The Tactical Welder from UltraTech International, Inc. (Jacksonville, FL) is a battery-powered welding system that is entirely portable and produces more power than anything like it on the market. This welder works off of a single battery pack capable of generating 300 amps. UltraTech’s patented processes are capable of producing a weld that meets AWS D1.1 structural steel requirements on a ⅜ in steel plate. “This kind of power in a battery-operated system that’s compact enough to fit in a backpack is a technological marvel,” explains Matt Clancy, the engineering and manufacturing director at UltraTech. “The potential use in remote welding applications is tremendous!”

The Tactical Welder portable welding tool is powered by a 528 Wh lithium-ion battery pack. A state-of-the-art electronic Battery Management System (BMS) safely controls charging and discharging functions. The weld gun is a 300 A industrial-grade spool gun wire-feed welder. Key features include:

  • Completely battery-powered system – no long power cords, bulky cables or generators necessary.
  • State-of-the-art, electronic battery management system uses high capacity lithium-ion batteries to provide consistent power and safely controls charging and discharging functions.
  • Ultimate portability – all components are designed to be stored/transported in the included backpack. The bag provides a holster for the spool gun and tools, allowing for one-hand welding operations.
  • The system consists of a high current contactor for cold tip operation. Clamp the ground, pull the trigger and weld.
