Hurco Companies, Inc. (Indianapolis, IN) has taken their workhorse VMXi Series of performance CNC machines and launched their newest iteration that features a direct drive spindle: The VMXDi Series includes the VMX24Di (travels 24 in x 20 in x 24 in), VMX30Di (travels 30 in x 20 in x 24 in), and the VMX42Di (travels 42 in x 24 in x 24 in). The VMXi series is known for its high level of performance, whether users are running batch production or die/mold work. With the new direct drive spindle, the VMXDi series boasts a better surface finish, quieter spindle, and less head growth. It also includes a 15,000 rpm spindle, improved chip-to-chip time (2,000 rpm, 12 in Z-travel in four seconds), faster spindle acceleration and deceleration (zero to 15,000 rpm in 3.2 seconds, 15,000 rpm to zero in 2.4 seconds).

The Hurco VMX42Di is equipped with a Hurco control powered by WinMax® software and the patented motion system called UltiMotion®. The control helps machinists and job shops be more productive and profitable by supporting many programming methods: conversational programming; NC programming; and an exclusive feature called NC/Conversational Merge that optimizes efficiency even further. Additionally, the control’s technical specifications lead the industry with 4GB RAM, 128GB Solid State Drive, and 10,000 block look-ahead.
