Automated Orbital Wrapping with Multi-Pallet Accumulation Zones and Integrated Weighing

Multi-pallet accumulation zones and integrated load cells on the fully automated Perfect Storm wrapping system from TAB Industries improve efficiency, keep lift trucks from being idle, and eliminate extra freight charges and delays due to inaccurate weights.

Multi-pallet accumulation zones used with the fully automated Perfect Storm wrapping system from TAB Industries set modular, powered conveyors at the infeed with a proprietary sensor array that recognizes the presence of a pallet load to be wrapped. The Perfect Storm automatically feeds the pallet load from the accumulation zone onto the infeed conveyor, then into the center ring for wrapping and to discharge in a continuous process, automatically adjusting the wrapping to the dimensions of the pallet load. A built-in highly accurate shear beam load cell installed at the final outfeed conveyor on a Perfect Storm wrapping system from TAB Industries integrates the weighing function as part of the automated wrapping process, eliminating stand-alone floor scales to streamline the shipping process and open floor space for improved safety. The load cell weighs the final, fully-wrapped pallet load and ensures the weight printed on the bill of lading accurately matches the terminal scale weight to eliminate extra freight charges and delays.

Developed to improve efficiency and keep lift trucks from idle time, multi-pallet accumulation zones are an option on fully automated Wrapper Tornado Perfect Storm wrapping systems from TAB Industries, LLC (Reading, PA). These multi-pallet accumulation zones set modular, powered conveyors at the infeed with a proprietary sensor array that recognizes the presence of a pallet load to be wrapped. The Perfect Storm automatically feeds the pallet load from the accumulation zone onto the infeed conveyor, then into the center ring for wrapping and to discharge in a continuous process, automatically adjusting the wrapping to the dimensions of the pallet load. The Perfect Storm automatically wraps plastic film 360 deg around and under the pallet to create a secure, unitized load with a tight wrap that stays intact during delivery, in-plant staging and on racks in storage. With multiple accumulation zone extensions available, the orbital wrapping system enables lift truck operators to unload and stage multiple pallet loads for wrapping then tend to other tasks without waiting for loads in process to be wrapped and without stopping to run the system.

Available in standard 5 ft lengths as well as custom lengths to suit the dimensions of the pallet load, multi-pallet accumulation zones may be added to the three Perfect Storm models with 100 in, 80 in and 40 in wrapping rings, and to custom-sized models for wrapping oversized products. The standard 100 in wrapping ring accommodates 60 in x 60 in pallets, and the 40 in and 80 in wrapping rings accommodate 24 in x 24 in and 48 in x 48 in pallets, respectively, to meet demand for a fully automated wrapping system in sizes that suit compact, low-profile products, along with products of virtually infinite lengths, without over-specifying.

TAB Industries also offers built-in load cells as an option on Perfect Storm wrapping systems. Integrating the weighing function as part of the automated wrapping process, these built-in load cells eliminate the need for stand-alone floor scales to streamline the shipping process and open floor space for improved safety. Installed at the final outfeed conveyor, a highly accurate shear beam load cell weighs the final, fully-wrapped pallet load, container or product as packaged and ready for delivery to ensure the weight printed on the bill of lading meets freight company requirements and matches the terminal scale weight. Extra freight charges and delays due to inaccurate weights are eliminated. The Perfect Storm with integrated weighing is ideal for wrapping metal and plastic parts, chemical drums, bulk containers, bagged powders, building products and a wide variety of other palletized loads requiring a secure, tight wrap that stays intact during delivery by LTL. The wrapping system automatically creates a stable, unitized load with verified weight in as little as 15 seconds per pallet load versus minutes with a horizontal turntable wrapper and floor scale.

All of these automated material handling systems are manufactured in the Reading factory and delivered with PLC controls, conveyors and standard accessories tested and ready for installation, along with a full warranty.
