Nine New Grinders & Sanders

Chicago Pneumatic’s CP3550 product lineup of 17 compatible finishing models allows perfect matching of applications and tools. Greater torque increases material removal rates and operator comfort while deburring, contouring, chamfering, fettling, removing seam welds, preparing surfaces, cleaning, polishing, and finishing.

Each of the nine new CP3550 series tools from Chicago Pneumatic have a 1,000-hour maintenance interval. In tests against competitive products, material removal rates were at least 50% higher.

Chicago Pneumatic’s (Rock Hill, SC) expanded CP3550 series promises high-quality finishes with minimal effort, thanks to nine new powerful and ergonomic products that enable operators to produce more with less physical stress. They are:

  • A 6-in angle grinder has been added to five previous models with 4-in-to-5-in wheels.
  • Four angle die grinders, two standard and two extended, join one previous angle die grinder. They come with an Erickson 200 collet for attachment of ¼-in (6-mm) mounted points and carbide burrs.
  • Two 7-in angle sanders in addition to two existing 5-in angle sanders.
  • Two low-speed sanders whose gearboxes generate high torque with reduced speed (3,000 rpm) for polishing or delicate applications. They operate with 7-in or 9-in sanding wheels or flapwheels and, like the angle sanders, are available with ⅝-in or M14 shaft threads.

Designed primarily for high-output environments like foundries, casting plants, fabrication shops, and shipyards, the models are also suitable for production and maintenance operations involving cast iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, alloys, and composites. Typical tasks include deburring, contouring, chamfering, fettling, weld seam removal, surface preparation, cleaning, polishing, and finishing.

Their 1.5 hp (1100 W) motor delivers the highest power in their category. In tests against competing products, material removal rates were more than 50% higher and, in one case, 80% higher.

All models have a rotating inlet swivel that enables free maneuvering and avoids hose knots, a feature not found on competing tools at this power level. A streamlined safety lever can be comfortably operated when wearing thick gloves and is easily directed downwards. Small-diameter handles provide a comfortable grip, while a thermally insulated composite oversleeve avoids having to handle cold tools over long periods. Silencer foam technology lowers noise levels.

A spindle lock that requires just one wrench lowers downtime for accessory changes. Keyless angle grinder guard adjustment – unique among direct competitors – enables quick changes, even when wearing gloves, to suit different work positions and deflect sparks.
