5-Axis Milling Machine Simplifies Complex Cutting Tasks

MC Machinery’s Eagle V5 can perform high-precision cuts with the X, Y, Z, B, and C axes moving simultaneously. Integrated 4/5-axis system allows X, Y, and Z travels of 21.6 in, 15.7 in, and 15.7 in, respectively.

The 5-axis Eagle V5 from MC Machinery Systems is able to achieve volumetric accuracy within 0.0004 inches when installed in a stable environment.

Built for rigidity and precision versatility, the gantry-type Eagle V5 vertical machining center (VMC) from MC Machinery Systems (Elk Grove Village, IL) employs a U-shape polymer concrete base with A-axis support and high-quality rotary table C-axis to achieve volumetric accuracy within 0.0004 inches when installed in a stable environment.

The machine is capable of performing high-precision cuts with the X, Y, Z, B, and C axes moving simultaneously. Integrated 4/5-axis system allows X, Y, and Z travels of 21.6 in, 15.7 in, and 15.7 in, respectively. Inclined surface machining, spiral contour machining, irregular contour machining, and other complex cutting tasks are simplified.

The machine has a 42,000-rpm HSK-E40 spindle and heavy-duty, roller-type linear motion ways on the X, Y, and Z axes.

Mounted on a movable pedestal for convenient operator positioning, Heidenhain TNC-640 control with 15.1-inch color display uses 32 GB solid state drive (SSD) to allow for extensive program look-ahead (5,000 blocks) and 0.5 ms block processing time (120,000 BPM).

The machine’s 15.75-inch table has a capacity of 550 lbs. Other standard features include a 32-position automatic tool changer (ATC), Renishaw infrared measuring probe, and BLUM laser system. Options include 100-position ATC, table clamping and pallet systems, chipconveyor for dry milling, and t-slot table to cover the 4/5 axis.

An internal coolant-supply version of the Eagle V5 with 580 psi delivery is also available. It comes with a two-axis direct-drive rotary table; 36,000 rpm; and HSK 50 spindle. The graphite version is equipped with an exhaust system for graphite and mist collection as well as oil mist suction and a 42,000-rpm HSK-40 spindle. The B-axis uses a zero-backlash gear drive and the C-axis uses a direct-drive system.
