Welding Titanium? Oxygen Analyzer Gives the Green Light to Start

Designed for demanding purge welding environments, HFT’s PurgeEye Desk reads oxygen levels from 1,000 ppm down to 1 ppm. Equipped with PurgeNet to connect with important accessories, the unit also features automatic fault finding diagnostics.

An organic light emitting diode (OLED) display gives bright and sharp readings from considerable distances.

When welding titanium, it’s essential for the oxygen level surrounding the weld to be purged down to as low as 50 ppm. Measuring the oxygen level with a reliable oxygen analyzer is the most efficient way to know exactly when to commence welding.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT designed the PurgEye Desk specifically for purge chamber welding, and it can read oxygen levels from 1,000 ppm right down to levels as low as 1ppm (highly accurate to 10 ppm) – while ensuring oxide free, zero color welds are achieved every time.

The PurgEye Desk is equipped with HFT’s revolutionary PurgeNet, for the in-line connection of additional accessories that allows the Weld Purge Monitor to control welding systems based on oxygen level as well as to provide indications of high and low oxygen levels. These include a visual alarm and a dew point sensor.

“Our Flexible Welding Enclosures, together with our PurgEye Desk are in use throughout industries such as the aerospace, racing car and titanium bicycle manufactures where titanium parts are required to be welded in an atmosphere where the oxygen level is required to be 50 ppm or less,” said HFT Chairman Ron Sewell.

The rugged, high-frequency-proof PurgEye Desk has automatic fault finding diagnostics that can detect and report a number of possible faults. It also features an organic light emitting diode (OLED ) display giving brighter, sharper readings at longer distances.

With a unique, fast response, long-life sensor that requires little maintenance, the PurgEye Desk Weld Purge Monitor comes complete with an integral pump to deliver the exhausting purge gas to the measuring sensor on a consistent basis to allow precision control of the welding systems.
