Cylindrical Is a Cinch with Benchtop Laser Measurement System

Marposs’ Meclab.X’s Aeroel technology eliminates measurement drift caused by changes in room temperature. The micrometer system doesn’t require a PC and is easy for inexperienced operators to learn, so it’s ideal for common measurement applications throughout the shop.

Meclab.X systems come in two styles: one with a 40-mm maximum measuring field and one with an 80-mm maximum measuring field. They measure diameters of 0.06 mm to 38 mm and 0.75 mm to 78 mm, respectively.

The Aeroel MecLab.X laser micrometer system from Marposs (Auburn Hills, MI) provide ultrahigh-accuracy diameter measurements for electric motor shafts, gage or piston pins, hydraulic components, and ground or turned parts. It doesn’t require a PC, so the system is suitable for the workshop environment and equipped for most common applications.

Designed to be used as an offline benchtop gauge, the system checks components of widely varying shapes and sizes without resetting or remastering. All part diameter, part axis position, and edge position measurements are referred to the center of the measuring field; tolerance is checked by comparing actual dimensions to the programmed limits. Aeroel technology prevents measuring drift due to changing room temperatures.

A CE-200 operator interface panel with integrated touch-sensitive keyboard and large LCD screen provide intuitive user experience while selecting one of three measuring modes: Free Running, On-Comm and Single Shot, and On-Command Continuous. Built-in memory stores all results, which can be downloaded to a remote computer. The system is easy to learn regardless of operator skill or experience.

Available in two basic styles:

Meclab.X40 has a 40-mm measuring field and measures diameters from 0.06 mm to 38 mm. Single-shot (±2σ) repeatability of ± 1.5 μm with overall repeatability (T=1s, ±2σ) of ± 0.07 μm. Measuring field accuracy is ± 0.5 μm.

Meclab.X80 has an 80-mm measuring field and measures diameters from 0.75 mm to 78 mm. Single-shot (±2σ) repeatability of ± 3.5 μm with overall repeatability (T=1s, ±2σ) of ± 0.2 μm. Measuring field accuracy is ± 2 μm.

Meclab.X-S is also available, featuring a flat granite basement with a precision linear stage to mount holding accessories and to move the part. The Meclab.X-SR has a base mounted under the granite base to house the electric supply and control circuits for optional accessories.
