Providing repeatability that is guaranteed within 10 microns, the chuck-changing system (CCS) from SMW Autoblok (Wheeling, IL) can be installed in under 3 minutes on new or existing lathes. A standard adapter system provides automatic push-off and easy mounting to all types of traditional or custom workholding including 2-jaw chucks, 3-jaw chucks, collet chucks, mandrels, and manual fixtures.
Turn a key to quickly connect workholding devices to the machine spindle and the actuating cylinder’s draw tube. This guarantees operator safety in addition to minimizing machine downtime. A large through hole and a visual safety control of the locking status completes the system’s versatility. Available for ASA spindles A6, A8, A11 and for cylindrical spindles for diameters Z170, Z220, Z300.
Ideal for CNC machining applications, another product – the SJL 6-jaw (2+2+2) equalizing and self-centering power chuck – provides the highest accuracy for thin-walled and deformation-sensitive workpieces. Depending on application requirements, the chuck can be switched from a 2+2+2 lever-equalizing chuck to a classic 6-jaw self-centering chuck.
The 2+2+2 lever-balance capability provides high concentricity and axial runout accuracies by ensuring the grip force of each jaw set equalizes as pairs and is in continuous contact with the workpiece. This minimizes any deformations or inaccuracies of raw materials.
By providing a concentric clamp locking plate for all sequential six jaws, the 6-jaw self-centering option enables the chuck to hold round, machined diameters and thin-walled workpieces that require equal wall thicknesses. Specifically designed with centrifugal force compensation, this feature vastly reduces production time by providing constant gripping force at higher speeds and feeds.
The SJL is Proofline-sealed and interior-protected from contamination while providing consistent lubrication, allowing for long maintenance intervals. It accepts tongue-and-groove or metric serrated top jaws and is available in sizes from 225 mm to 400 mm.
