Compact, High-Precision Multitasking Machining Center

Methods Machine Tools, the exclusive U.S. importer of Nakamura-Tome multitasking turning centers, introduces the Nakamura-Tome MX-100 with multiple ‘smart’ functions that ease programming and operation. Design eliminates need for positioning fixtures and clamping devices.

The space-saving Nakamura-Tome MX-100 multiturret machine is 171 inches (4,350 mm) long and 110 inches (2,795 mm) wide. CAMplete TruePath G-Code software and Advanced NT Nurse System all-in-one software package ease programming and operation.

The Nakamura-Tome MX-100 multitasking turning center distributed in the U.S. by Methods Machine Tools Inc. (Sudbury, MA) increases the efficiency of high-mix, low-volume milling and turning of parts for the aerospace and medical markets by reducing changeovers. A rigid construction as well as advanced software, smart features, and a 96-tool capacity provide exceptional accuracy. The turning center is equipped with a 15-hp upper tool spindle with 20,000 rpm; and an 8,000-rpm milling turret offers 12 tool stations with 24 indexing positions.

Heavy-duty construction includes a rigid design casting and column at 37,200 pounds, 30% heavier than other machines in its class. An eco-friendly solution, the MX-100 has grease lubrication of slide axes.

The 12,000-rpm (optional 20,000-rpm) upper tool spindle handles 2.5-inch-diameter (65 mm) bar. Total Y-axis travel is 8.26 inches (210 mm); X-axis travels up to 1.9 inches (50 mm) below spindle center. SmartX touchscreen with PC-based 19-inch, high-resolution LCD panel works in conjunction with Fanuc 31i-B5 control.

Standard smart features include NT Work Navigator, which recognizes the coordinates of machine parts with non-round shapes, such as those in forgings and castings. This eliminates the need for costly positioning fixtures and clamping devices.

Advanced NT Nurse System all-in-one software package ensures convenient programming and operation. Critical functionality includes phase recognition, direct chucking-enabling transfer without positioning error, and precise synchronization of the left- and right-hand spindles. Additional functions include a load monitor for identifying tool wear, tool life management, and machine monitoring.

CAMplete TruePath software is an integrated suite of G-Code editing, optimization, analysis, and verification tools enabling a full range of turn/mill functions and offering users everything needed to simulate and verify complex programs in an intuitive 3D environment.

Electronic detector safety feature greatly reduces impact and force of a machine collision. Should a crash occur, servomotor-feeding direction is reversed and the machine stops in EMG mode within 4 milliseconds.
