Deburr, Polish, Clean, and Dry Parts in 5 Seconds

By rotating media instead of parts, Bel Air Finishing’s AutoHone robotic deburring machine eliminates scrapes and chips that occur when parts collide with each other in tumblers and centrifugal disk finishers. Parts are secured for deburring and polishing in an automated process.

Bel Air Finishing’s all-in-one AutoHone is a turnkey solution that deburrs, polishes, cleans, and/or polishes. The machine increases cutting tool effectiveness and extends tool life by removing microscopic burrs and sharp edges from coated as well as uncoated parts.

Unlike traditional drag finishers, the AutoHone reverse drag finisher from Bel Air Finishing Corp. (North Kingstown, RI) rotates media instead of parts before dipping parts into the flowing media held within a rotating bin. By combining this process with robotic automation, the AutoHone comprises a turnkey solution to deburring, polishing, cleaning, and drying.

Capable of five dimensional motions, the robot’s arm enables parts to be inserted into finishing media at virtually any angle necessary to achieve finishing specifications. Following the finishing process, the robotic arm cleans the part in the optional ultrasonic cleaning station and can dry it in the optional drying station before placing the part back into the tray.

The AutoHone can process parts in 5 seconds and extend the life of cutting tools by up to 300%. This applies to both coated and uncoated parts. When precoated pieces are honed, the machine removes microscopic irregularities that occur when coating is unevenly distributed across the part’s surface. Removing these irregularities increases cutting speed by reducing the friction of cutting tools on surfaces.

The AutoHone has been used in almost every industry to process medical, automotive, aerospace, fire arms, machined parts, and 3D printed parts. It’s available with options to adapt to any manufacturing environment.
