Hoffmann Group USA (Knoxville, TN) adds the Garant Power Q Double all-round system with five body types and two system sizes (09 and 14) to its family of high-feed-rate milling tools. Featuring grades for steel, hardened and stainless steels, titanium, and a general-purpose grade, the cutter is suitable for any job where high process reliability and high metal removal rates are required.
The milling cutter reduces cutting forces and optimizes chip evacuation with an unconventional three-part cutting-edge guide consisting of a wiper cutter, straight cutter, and finishing cutter. The wiper cutter edge delivers sufficient surface quality in roughing mode, the straight cutter edge permits high feed rates at maximum cutting depths, and the small “finishing cutter” edge forms short tightly rolled chips to prevent chip blockages even when ramping.
Optimization of the insert pocket enhances process reliability even at large overhangs. The inserts are solidly screwed into the tool body and secured by a dove-tail profile against floating. Tool bodies are available for Weldon shanks, plain shanks, threaded connections, and plug-in tools.
As with all members of the product family, the tool bodies are protected against corrosion and chip impact by a hard nickel coating. If unexpected problems arise, the customer is entitled during the first year to a one-off replacement for a damaged or worn cutter head by redeeming the supplied Powercard.
Launched two years ago, the Garant product family is characterized by tools that achieve the best results at very high feed rates without any loss of process reliability. Another product in the lineup, the Garant Power Q, performs well on special operations such as ramping and circular interpolation milling, which is best suited to milling operations with unbroken cutting.
