Updated Design, Simulation, and Manufacturing Software

With Solid Edge 2021, Siemens furthers expands the functionality of its product development software suite. Enhancements include new tools for cloud-based collaboration.

Design at the speed of creative thought with subdivision modeling, lightning-fast reverse engineering, a user interface powered by artificial intelligence, and an intelligent 3D model search engine in Solid Edge 2021, the product-development software suite from Siemens.
Accelerate concepts using advanced surfacing to create distinctive products. Subdivision modeling works within the Solid Edge environment, enabling intuitive freeform modeling to all levels of users.

Made possible by synchronous technology, Solid Edge software from Siemens Digital Industries Software (Plano, TX) combines the speed and simplicity of direct modeling with the flexibility and control of parametric design. The 2021 version includes design capability enhancements such as new subdivision modeling and improved reverse engineering performance with new deviation analysis. An artificial intelligence-powered adaptive user interface predicts next steps, and a seamless integration with 3dfind.it, an intelligent 3D model search engine powered by CADENAS, can be used to save valuable time in the upfront design phase.

“A lot of things will make the design process easier for our engineers,” says  Kimball R&D Engineering Manager Ricardo Espinosa. “Subdivision modeling is very powerful. Having the ability to easily incorporate organic shapes into our product designs within the Solid Edge environment is a big deal for us. Having the process contained in one software solution without the need for importing, exporting, and translating data is very important.”

Enhancements across the portfolio include:

  • Fast, accurate 2D layout of industrial control panels with new cabinet panel design capabilities.
  • Optimized integration between flow and structural simulation.
  • Searchable postprocessor database and improved roughing and adaptive milling capabilities accelerate numerical control programming.
  • Enhanced cloud-based collaboration options with the introduction of Teamcenter Share, which can be used with Solid Edge to synchronize desktop files to secure cloud storage.
