Fiber Laser for Extra-Large-Format Beveling and Cutting

The bed on LVD Strippit’s gantry-style Taurus FL can be expanded in 6.5-foot increments from 39 feet to 131 feet for extra-large sheet metal cutting. Large parts can be cut without repositioning and higher volumes of smaller workpieces can be processed without interruption.

LVD Strippit’s Taurus FL fiber laser cutter processes extra-large and/or multiple and handles varying batch sizes, shapes, and material types. The bed expands in 6.5-foot increments from 39 feet to 131 feet. The bevel head allows bevel cutting or 2.5D cutting up to 45 degrees.

The gantry-style Taurus FL from LVD Strippit (Akron, NY) allows a wide variety of parts to be nested and cut, increasing productivity and optimizing material usage without requiring a special foundation. Its 39-foot (12-meter) bed can be expanded in 6.5-foot (2-meter) increments to 131 feet (40 meters) to accommodate workpieces 10.8 feet (3.3 meters) wide and 1.18 inches (30 mm) thick.

The fiber laser also allows bevel cutting or 2.5D cutting up to 45 degrees, offering a fast and cost-effective way to prepare material for subsequent welding operations or to create geometrical shapes. Two direct-drive motors in the bevel head increase accuracy and response to ensure consistently precise bevel cutting.

The machine features two touch control panels and a handheld control unit that enables the operator to safely move all axes in manual mode for setup or to load the nozzle changer. A camera inside the cutting zone and a monitor on the operator console allow continuous process monitoring.

An optional automatic nozzle changer increases machine uptime and throughput. The unit has storage for 30 nozzles in a turret-style holder positioned close to the cutting head. The nozzle changer features an integrated camera that checks nozzle alignment, size and condition. It offers automatic calibration of the capacitive height sensing and nozzle cleaning after a preset number of piercings.

Optional CADMAN-L software includes automated functions to simplify programming and offers advanced nesting, collision avoidance, on-the-fly piercing and cutting, and process parameter tables. For bevel cutting, an optional plug-in is available for SolidWorks, Solid Edge, and Inventor.

Designed for easy access, only the gantry, not the entire machine, has an enclosure. The cutting zone’s detachable front panel also facilitates maintenance access.

Taurus FL is offered with a 6-, 8- or 10-kW fiber laser source with wall-plug efficiency of more than 40%.
