Signode’s StorFast is an automated storage and retrieval (ASRS) system that provides high-density, lights-out, 24/7-access to products and materials. Unlike cranes, the cart-based system increases capacity by allowing for unlimited configurations.

Comprised of powered carts that automatically move pallets in and out of position, the Storfast aisle shuttle (AS)/row shuttle (RS) from Signode Industrial Group (Glenview, IL) is able to accommodate unlimited layers. Each layer of rack is serviced by one cart, ensuring both redundancy and higher throughput versus more traditional systems like cranes. Pallets rest on the cart platform, eliminating handling complications from broken boards, wrap tails, etc.

Also unlike crane systems, the system allows for unlimited configuration flexibility, providing easy integration into existing facilities or new construction. It’s ultrahigh-density storage capacity allows for variance in building layout, design and volume, providing greater storage capacity and flexibility. The system allows multiple orders to be processed simultaneously and can flex between high-volume input and peak shipping schedules.

The cart is built with standard industrial components, improving parts availability, reducing costs and simplifying repairs. Its modular design allows for expansion as capacity requirements and SKUs increase.
