Dillon Manufacturing makes soft or hard and full-grip special top jaws in a wide range of materials and configurations to ensure chucks provide maximum grip for an application.
Applied via electrospark deposition (ESD), Dillon Manufacturing’s Carbinite coating enhances mill performance by doubling the gripping strength of jaws.

Available in soft or hard jaws and full-grip jaws for virtually any chuck manufacturer, Dillon Manufacturing Inc. (Springfield, OH) can manufacture special top jaws from copper, brass, delrin, tool steel, 1018, 1045, 4140, 8620, A-2, 6061 aluminum, and stainless steel in configurations to grip a component’s internal and outer diameters (or a combination of both) to suit any workholding application. Dillon also offers Carbinite, a wear-resistant textured carbide coating that reduces or eliminates slippage to enhance mill performance and reduce cycle times. Ideal for hard or soft jaws, especially vise jaws and step jaws used for clamping applications, in tests the coating nearly doubled gripping strength at equal clamping force and customers report longer tool life. The coating is added via a process called electrospark deposition (ESD) after jaws are milled to customer requirements. The coating displays exceptional bond strength without annealing or distortion.
