Smaller and lighter than other laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analyzers, Rigaku Analytical Devices’ KT-100S identifies difficult materials including low-alloy steels, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys and lithium.

The KT-100S laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) metal analyzer from Rigaku Analytical Devices (Wilmington, MA) provides on-the-spot identification of the most difficult alloys, including aluminum grades, with lower detection limits and the ability to analyze more alloys than traditional handheld identification methods. This includes upgraded precision for low-alloy steels, stainless steels, as well as high-temperature alloys and lithium (Li) detection.

Considerably smaller and lighter than competing products, the unit also offers unique auto surface preparation with its Drill-Down feature. Another major benefit is that, because the analyzer uses a laser excitation source, there are minimal to no regulatory licensing requirements.

Its MIL-STD 810G drop-test certification and IP-54 dust protection rating make the analyzer an ideal tool for fabrication shops, plant environments and scrap metal yards. Manufacturers now have the ability to provide on-site certification of verification of outgoing material, as well as confirm or re-establish chain of custody of mislabeled components.
