Two-Arm Cobot Doubles Efficiency Without Sacrificing Safety

Even though they have two arms, Kawasaki Robotics’ duAro cobots fit into a single-person space while providing enough room for an employee to safely work alongside. Two models provide 8.8- and  13-pound payloads.

Kawasaki’s duAro dual-arm collaborative SCARA cobot works safely and efficiently next to employees in applications including assembly, material handling, inspection, and machine tending.

The duAro from Kawasaki Robotics (Wixom, MI) dual-arm selective compliance assembly robot arm (SCARA) robot operates on a single axis. In addition to providing independent arm operation, this enables the cobot to perform coordinated arm movements like a human. Low-power motors, soft body, and speed and shared work zone monitoring further enhance safety; in the event of a collision, the collision detection function instantaneously stops the cobot’s movement.

Two models, the duAro1 and duAro 2, provide 4.4 pounds (2 kg) and 6.6 (3 kg) payload per arm for total payloads of 8.8 pounds (4kg) and 13 pounds (6 kg), respectively. Standard reach is 30 inches (760 mm); repeatability: ±0.05 mm.

The base of the wheeled cobot holds the controller. Direct teach function allows the operator to program the cobot by hand guiding its arms. It also can be programmed using a PC or tablet terminal by entering numerical values indicating the direction and distance of each movement.
