METAL CUTTING
Finding the most suitable lubricants and cleaners/washers to support your machinery maintenance and parts cleaning needs goes straight to your bottom line.
CLEAN TECHNOLOGY ADDITIVE FOR METALWORKING FLUIDS
GELITA (Sioux City, IA) offers NOVOTEC® CL800, a natural, clean-label additive for a new generation of easy-to-clean metalworking fluids and offers many trending benefits for synthetic and semisynthetic systems. GELITA used its scientific studies of functional proteins, like those in the human body that lubricate joints, to develop NOVOTEC CL800. Transferring this knowledge to industrial and, specifically, metalworking applications, GELITA’s protein-based additives combine industry efficiency advantages with health and environmental friendliness in metalworking fluids.
The additive protects metal surfaces with a hydrophilic protein layer, which repels oil-based components of water-miscible metalworking fluids without negative influence on lubrication performance. Thus, facilitating cleaning of machines, tools, and workpieces from oil and smut.
Users of metalworking fluids with this additive are rewarded with less cleaning downtime — up to a half-day per week. There is less grit and thus reduced abrasiveness, higher quality parts and longer tool life. There is also less excess metalworking fluids on chips, translating to reduced drag out, and lower consumption rates. Processed parts are ready faster for downstream processing steps such as bonding, welding, painting, or coating; without the need for more intensive cleaning.
INDUSTRIAL GRADE ALL-PURPOSE LUBRICANT CLEANS, PREVENTS RUST/CORROSION
The L.S. Starrett Co. (Athol, MA) offers M1® Industrial Quality All-Purpose Lubricant, ideal in a wide range of applications including on metal equipment such as rollers, racks, conveyors, chains and virtually any metal components found in highly corrosive environments such as marine, general metalworking and more. M1 is not soluble in water, so it gets under moisture to lift it away from the surface to be protected. Starrett M1 Special Formula Lubricant protects metal against rust and corrosion damage by providing a molecular shield that locks to the metal. The lubricant can be used to protect working surfaces of machinery, in dip tanks to protect production parts in process, or apply on tools when stored.
Starrett M1 Lubricant dries and will not attract dirt, dust or other contaminants as other leading lubricants do. M1 produces a micro-thin, airtight coating/film that simultaneously dries as it protects, avoiding dirt, grime, etc., that other “wet” lubricants actually attract. The can will spray upside down in awkward places without losing propellant power. It is the best lubricant value for its cost.
M1 is free of silicone, making it an excellent lubricant to stand up to extreme temperatures for year-round use. Its deep-down penetration works quickly to free frozen nuts, bolts and metal parts. It gets under caked-on dirt to clean the metal and remove the dirt. It is excellent for removing grease, tar, and grime from metal parts and painted surfaces, cleaning and polishing for lasting protection.
Starrett M1 has instant lubrication properties that spread into those hard-to-reach metal parts to stop squeaking and sticking. And it prevents short circuits in high moisture environments, halting electrical leakage from wet ignition wires.
Starrett M1 All-Purpose Lubricant is available in 53-gallon drums, one- and five-gallon containers and 12-ounce aerosol cans.
HEAVY-DUTY AQUEOUS ALKALINE CLEANER
KYZEN (Nashville, TN), the global leader in innovative environmentally friendly cleaning chemistries, offers METALNOX M6324R, a high alkaline aqueous cleaning chemistry that has proven effective in both spray and immersion cleaning processes to clean steel parts. M6324R effectively removes water-insoluble oils, heavy greases, deep draw stamping compounds, and other difficult soils, including oxides and burned on carbon. It is extensively used in high-speed stamping or reel-to-reel operations where wash exposure time is short.
The product is a low foaming, non-emulsifying chemical blend. The oil splitting formula allows for a longer bath life and a lower steady-state bath soil load, thus providing cleaner parts in a cost-effective cleaning operation. Rinse with KYZEN CP90K to provide extended rust protection. Not recommended to clean aluminum, brass or copper substrates.
