Safe and Secure: Magnets Carry the Loads

Magnetic lifting systems and control valves allow operators to make efficient use of their time when handling steel, which typically can be difficult and time consuming to job shops.

MATERIAL HANDLING

Powerful magnet transfer systems keep your parts and workers safe from dropped loads. These systems increase the speed of production and reduce labor and table downtime. Read on to learn more about the benefits of utilizing magnetic systems to safely transfer parts.

ADDITIONS MADE TO TRANSPORTER® EOAT FAMILY PLATFORM
Industrial Magnetics Inc.’s (Boyne City, MI) Transporter Switch Series (TPS) Rare Earth Magnets are ideal for use where vacuum cups and grippers are typically used for lifting and moving steel sheets, blanks, stamped parts and complete assemblies in automated press-to-press transfer or robotic “pick and place” applications. They are perfect for clean room environments, as there is NO dirty air exhausted to the atmosphere.

Powerful rare earth magnets positively hold the parts during transfer, reducing the chance of slipping and shifting of your part due to oily coatings. A 5/3 directional control valve controls the “grip/release” function of the magnet. Easy to retrofit on existing tooling, the TPS Magnetic Transporters offer instantaneous pick-up and release — increasing production speeds and operating effectively in any orientation. To protect the surface finishes of parts during pickup and transfer, an optional “low skid” version with a non-marring contact ring is also available.

Features and benefits:

  • Uses less air than vacuum cups
  • Outlasts vacuum cups in most applications
  • Reduces noise
  • Grasps odd-shaped and perforated parts
  • Will not drop parts if system air-loss occurs
  • Maximum operating temperature 140°F (60°C)
  • Destacks without double blanking when the appropriate magnet is selected for the application
  • Double Acting

Optional Equipment:

  • V-brackets to keep rounds or 90° shapes centered on the magnet; made of UHMW to provide non-marring contact
  • Apple core mount
  • Ball mount
  • 3/8″ NPT mount

NEW BURN TABLE LEFT MAGNET SYSTEM ALLOWS FOR THE TRANSFER OF MULTIPLE CUT PIECES AT ONCE
The new air-operated Burn Table Lift Magnet System from Eriez® (Erie, PA) easily and quickly moves multiple parts or cut-outs up and off burn tables. Eriez is recognized as world authority in separation technologies. With a powerful magnetic circuit design, the new advanced transfer system can also lift single sheets or plates up to three inches thick from a stack to load the table.

The system improves productivity and creates a safer work environment by eliminating manual handling of multiple parts and the need for operators to climb on burn tables. This system can positively and significantly impact a company’s bottom line through reduced labor and table downtime.

This new Burn Table Lift Magnet System features an innovative design with an extremely powerful and wide magnetic surface area. When activated, a stainless-steel stripper pan retracts to engage the steel parts with a very high magnetic holding force. To release, air cylinders push the stripper pan away from the magnetic head to create a gap and break the holding force.

Because the system utilizes permanent magnets and does not require a controller, there are no power failure concerns. Standard models include 24-, 48- and 120-inch designs to accommodate most common plate or sheet sizes.
