Wayland Additive Expands NeuBeam Metal AM Tech to Meet Demand

Calibur3 as an eBeam metal additive manufacturing system opens up new opportunities for production applications.

Calibur3 operates at temperature ranges that many are not used to, which allows for the processing of a wider range of metal materials — including high carbon steels — with faster development times.

Wayland Additive, the developer and manufacturer of the Calibur3 metal additive manufacturing (AM) systems featuring NeuBeam technology, is pleased to announce significant progress as it ramps up production to meet orders.

Throughout 2022, Wayland has continued a program of expansion and growth that has seen its premises extended considerably at its headquarters in Huddersfield, UK. Additional facilities include a dedicated production factory, as well as new premises secured specifically for research and development.

According to Will Richardson, CEO at Wayland, “The new production facilities were commissioned to meet the orders for Calibur3 that the business has secured. The greatly expanded space supports a production line and will ensure that all orders are met. We have also increased our research and development facilities, with extended space, newly commissioned testing equipment and additional personnel. One of our core principles is to work with partners to maximize the capabilities of Calibur3, particularly with regard to metallurgy and identifying working parameters for metal materials that have previously been difficult to process for additive manufacturing.”

One of the key USPs of Calibur3 as an eBeam metal AM system, is that it opens up many new opportunities for production applications. This is because of the unique high temperature capabilities of the NeuBeam process that opens up a much wider palette of metal material options. Qualifying materials for metal AM traditionally has taken a long time, usually in the region of 2 years. With Calibur3, and working in collaboration with partners, Wayland is able to produce high quality results in a much shorter timeframe — around six months.

In addition to the physical expansion of Wayland’s facilities, the team has also grown concurrently throughout 2022. Personnel have been added on all fronts across the business, including but not limited to research, production, software development, and sales.
