MIG Guns for Extreme Duty Applications Now Available

ESAB Corp. (North Bethesda, MD) a leader in fabrication and specialty gas control technology, has updated its ST-21 and ST-16 MIG guns with a Euro-style back-end connection that makes them compatible with ESAB and competitive brand feeders. With color-coded, quick connect/disconnect water lines and internal connections for shielding gas, the ST-16 EU and ST-21 EU guns are ready to weld in less than a minute.

Both guns boast a 100% duty cycle at 600A and feature a design that can withstand the abusive environments of shipyards, mines, railcar, trailer, and more sites. They are especially popular for pulsed MIG welding with 1/16” aluminum wires, tubular wires up to 7/64” and high-amperage spray and pulsed spray transfer applications.

“Our customers love the ST-21 and ST-16 guns because they increase uptime and productivity,” said John Esposito, ESAB Global Product Manager. “They have earned a reputation as the industry’s most reliable, most durable gun.” ST guns come in two styles to match customer preference. The ST-16 EU has a slightly curved style handle, a 55-degree “gooseneck” style conductor tube and a 10-ft. cable. This design is compatible with portable welding tractors such as ESAB’s Miggytrac B501 or B5001, which clamps a regular torch in a holder for mechanized welding. The ST-21 EU is a pistol-grip/inline-style handle and comes with a 12-ft. cable.

These guns are sold separately or as a total package with many of ESAB’s systems.

Reduce Training Time and Expand Output With the Latest Welding Equipment, New SeamMonitor System for Precise TIG Tube Welding, Xiris Automation, SeamMonitor™, camera-based measurement tool, TIG welded tube mills, torch tip-to-weld seam alignment, Xiris’ WeldStudio™ software platform, XVC-1000 High Dynamic Range Weld Camera,
Seam out of alignment with TIG torch.

Xiris Automation (Burlington, Ontario, Canada), a leading provider of innovative camera-based solutions for quality control in the metal fabrication industry, offers SeamMonitor™, a camera-based measurement tool that provides real-time monitoring of the torch tip-to-weld seam alignment and weld seam size on TIG welded tube mills.

Metal tube fabricators who use TIG welding know that precise alignment of the welding torch to the welding seam is critical to achieving high-quality welds with clean edges and minimal weld bead. Occasionally, the seam to torch tip alignment can move over time due to various tensions in the tube, causing it to twist as it is pulled through the weld head. As a result, the weld seam can rotate in and out of position with respect to the welding torch, which may result in defects and production losses.

To solve this problem, Xiris has enhanced its SeamMonitor system, which provides a robust solution to monitor tip-to-weld seam alignment on TIG tube mills. The SeamMonitor combines a High Dynamic Range weld camera that can clearly capture the torch, weld arc, and surrounding environment with powerful machine vision measurement software that enables real-time monitoring of the weld seam size, torch tip location, and relative offset between the torch tip and its seam.

The SeamMonitor™ provides a system solution for use on TIG tube mills providing warning and error alerts on key measurements to operators or external equipment for process control. The system includes data analysis tools and onscreen graphing of key measurements that can be sent to external equipment using OPC, analog or digital interfaces. SeamMonitor is built on Xiris’ WeldStudio™ software platform.

Enhanced Technology for Unicables Increases Cable Life up to 300%
Reduce Training Time and Expand Output With the Latest Welding Equipment, Enhanced Technology for Unicables Increases Cable Life up to 300%, Tregaskiss, Low Stress Robotic, SmoothTurn™, TOUGH GUN® TA3 robotic MIG guns, power cable, increasing overall cable life up to 300%, TOUGH GUN TA3 robotic guns, LSR+ unicables complement, reduced spatter
Tregaskiss has enhanced its LSR+ unicables with SmoothTurn™ technology.

Tregaskiss (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) has enhanced its LSR+ (Low Stress Robotic) unicables with SmoothTurn™ technology for use with TOUGH GUN® TA3 robotic MIG guns. This technology reduces friction on the internal components in the power cable, increasing overall cable life up to 300% and maximizing productivity.

While conventional unicables generally have connections with limited rotational capability, producing torsional stress, the LSR+ unicable has a rotating power connection to reduce that stress. Tregaskiss also incorporated improved electrical connections to ensure a more stable arc, resulting in reduced spatter.

Special internal components increase power cable support and bend radius to better accommodate heavy robot articulation. The addition of a protective external conduit further extends cable life by guarding components against harsh elements in the robotic welding cell.

The LSR+ unicables complement the other durable features of the TOUGH GUN TA3 robotic guns, including the aluminum armored neck, the precision-engineered keyway system for accurate alignment and a resilient neck clamp.
