New models and upgrades, as well as ergonomic design enhancements to power tools and mag drills ensure consistent and reliable results for metal fabrication operations.
New Geared Dual-Action Electric Polisher is Part of Signature Series
Dynabrade, Inc.’s (Clarence, N.Y.) new Geared Dual-Action Polisher electric tool is part of the Renny Doyle Signature Series. Doyle is a master-level detailer within the automotive industry. He is also known as the official detailer of Air Force One.
The polisher features a lightweight, low-profile design, which is precision balanced to deliver superior power. The tool is ideal for use with both 5” and 6” diameter pads. The ergonomically designed extended handle allows for increased operation comfort during use. A single-action lock trigger eliminates accidental startup of the tool, and a rubberized grip reduces tool vibration. The electric motor features a 20’ swivel cord for easy extended reach during operation.
The Geared Dual-Action Polisher is 1,000 watts and operates at a variable speed of 150-to-350 orbits per minute with a 6.8 mm orbit. Use the slow speed to cut. Use the higher speed to polish. Cut and polish to bring out professional finishes on a variety of surfaces. It is ideal for removing oxidation and for correcting imperfections.
The Most Compact Mag Drill with Forward/Reverse Rotation
FEIN Power Tools Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) launched its most innovative Slugger by FEIN magnetic base last year. The FEIN JMC MagForce90 features forward and reverse rotation and a compact size of 6-5/8”
high and 11-3/8” wide; it fits where other mag drills simply can’t. It features 2,248 lbf. magnetic holding force, a tilt sensor safety shut off, and an 1,150-watt brushless motor, which provides a secure hold with impressive power while working in various challenging applications. The JMC MagForce90 weighs less than 19 pounds and includes a ratchet handle that adjusts to fit into tight workspaces.
New High Torque Three-speed Magnetic Drill
Hougen Manufacturing, Inc. (Swartz Creek, MI) has released a new model of portable magnetic drill, the HMD920. It offers a major performance and power improvement to the line of Hougen magnetic drills. With the addition of a three-speed gearbox, the drill gives metal fabricators more torque to drill large deep holes in steel and the ability to use a wider variety of annular cutters.
The HMD920 has a number of features that increase the operator’s productivity. The LED pilot light is built into the base of the magnet and allows the operator to line up the pilot more efficiently and quickly with the hole’s center location in low light conditions. The motor is the strongest, most powerful put on any Hougen drill. The three speeds (250, 450, 700 rpm) help maximize torque, tool life and productivity. It also allows for the use of both high speed steel and copperhead carbide cutters. The addition of a two-stage magnet increases magnetic holding power by 30% when the drill’s motor is turned on. This saves energy and increases magnet life. The arbor system utilizes a 5/8″ slot drive for more rigidity, hole accuracy and quicker use of accessories such as drill chucks and tapping attachments. The HMD920 is made in the USA.
Updated Edge Milling Tool Creates Edges with Repeatable Accuracy
TRUMPF (Farmington, CT) offers a new TruTool TKA 1500 edge milling tool with updated features to reliably create sheet metal edges with repeatable accuracy and without any rework. The redesigned deburring tool is now available with a new cutting mount and guide fence for increased applications and safety. Additional ergonomic enhancements to the TKA 1500 contribute to the tool’s low-vibration and smooth operation.
TRUMPF designed the TKA 1500 for operator safety and ergonomics. The tool’s handle shape, size and positioning ensure safe machine guidance, and support the chamfer quality. The large electric hand tool is equipped with a powerful 2,600-watt motor and adapted gearbox, so it is very quiet to run, and operators can generate a high-quality chamfer reliably, and for longer periods of time without fatigue. Design improvements have reduced vibrations and ensure that an optimum feed rate can be achieved. This reduces the amount of wear and tear, increasing durability.
The TKA 1500 comes with a standard, 45° multi-edge cutter mount, and depending on the application, operators can also choose optional multi-edge or radius multi-edge cutter mounts in 30°, 60°, and now 37.5° angle positions. The new multi-edge cutter mount can chamfer at 37.5° angles, which is particularly useful when processing tubes. The new edge milling tool is suitable for an increased variety of applications. It is suitable for deburring, rounding, or chamfering end edges. The tool can also be used to prepare parts for powder and paint coatings, as well as welded seams.
The bevel length can still be adjusted without tools, although now it is easier to adjust since the new design of the TKA 1500 provides an unrestricted view of the dial ring. Operators can use the tool to create clean visible edges, break off sharp edges, add a radius or prepare a weld seam.
The tool’s unique guide fence is made of stainless steel and is particularly beneficial when processing long, straight sheet metal and outer contours. The guide fence makes it easier to run into the sheet metal and control the processing direction. The guide fence also provides practical protection against chips, directing chips downward in a controlled fashion to increase occupational safety.
